Most soil tests arrive as a page of figures: pH, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, measured precisely but interpreted by no one. What does 23 mg/kg phosphorus mean for your maize? Is that boron level a concern for your macadamias? Which lands require lime, and at what rate?
Sapling's agronomy capability closes that gap: raw laboratory data is converted into clear findings, and those findings into a plan of action.
From laboratory results to a season program.
Our clients' soil and leaf analysis results, from any accredited laboratory, are read and interpreted by our own agronomy software, developed in-house and in daily use on commercial farms: every field, every nutrient, evaluated against research-grade crop norms developed for South African conditions. Maize, potatoes, sugarcane, macadamias, citrus, pasture: each interpretation is calibrated to the specific requirements of the crop and the yield expectation for the land, not generic rules of thumb.
The service delivers two documents:
Comprehensive soil reports.
A professional, field-by-field report that converts laboratory figures into clear findings. Every nutrient is classified against the crop's requirements as deficient, sufficient, or in excess, with the significant findings and farm-wide patterns identified. Analyses from multiple seasons are tracked over time: pH movement, phosphorus build-up, the effect of previous corrections.
A complete season fertilizer program.
From the same data, we compile the full program for the season: the requirement for each field, the quantity, and the timing. Soil corrections ahead of planting; applications through the season; foliar supplementation where leaf analysis indicates it. Each element is scheduled to the crop's growth stages and presented as a program the farm team can implement directly.
We recommend nutrients, not products.
Our programs specify what the soil requires: nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, lime, micronutrients, and the ratios between them, per field and per growth stage. They do not prescribe quantities of our own products.
This is deliberate, and it is built into the software itself: the reports and programs present nutrient requirements only. The recommendation stands on its own merits. A client could take their program to any supplier and it would remain correct. That independence is precisely why it can be trusted.
Blended to the program's exact specification.
When a program moves to supply, we blend the fertilizer to its precise nutrient specification as a Terra Hybrid: the prescription, pelletised on our high-carbon organic carrier rather than inert filler. No supplier can match a program more accurately than the team that compiled it.
The carrier matters most at this point. According to research, more than 50% of applied fertilizer never reaches the crop. The program defines exactly what to apply; the carbon carrier retains it in the root zone where the crop can use it. Precision in the plan, efficiency in the soil.
